We were doing Macbeth, for O-level English, and we’d been reading the scene where Duncan’s wife and baby are killed. I was quiet. He put his books down, removed his glasses and rubbed his eyes. ‘In your own time, William,’ he said quietly.
‘What?’
‘Whatever’s on your mind. In your own time.’
