This Beautiful Life

Helen Schulman

I have seldom read a novel that treats so many important topics arising from one simple (stupidly unkind) non violent act. I believe this book to be mainly about the results of avoiding responsibility for one's acts, or encouraging one's child to do so. However, the reviews I've read on Amazon seem to miss this: so please take the book to your Readers' Group and see what they think. I guarantee the reading experience is well worth it.

'You always treat girls honourably,' Dad said, 'With respect.' Hadn't he and Lizzie taught Jake the same thing, albeit in a different language? Hadn't they said, 'Safe sex, and better with someone you love?'
