The Collected Stories of Lydia Davis by Lydia Davis

The Collected Stories of Lydia Davis

Lydia Davis

A huge collection of writings, including stories, mere comments and short novels. Many of the stories touch on the minor manifestations of mental illness but are not depressing. Loneliness is also prevalent. Lydia Davis's writing has been described as experimental but most these stories are accessible, enjoyable and amusing. Definitely worth a try if you are looking for something really different. Winner of 2013 Man Booker International Prize

Love
A woman fell in love with a man who had been dead a number of years. It was not enough for her to brush his coats, wipe his inkwell, finger his ivory combs: she had to build her house over his grave and sit with him night after night in the damp cellar.
