Karl Ove's aims and views are expressed in the excerpt - but he is also balancing his desire to find 'the meaning of life' with childcare, clinical depression (not his) and being a Norwegian living in Sweden. I found this an amazing book, it didn't even matter that I hadn't read volume one first. But then I like a challenge in terms of style and content (and this book delivered on both counts).
