You do not have to be a crime genre fan to enjoy this book. It is well written and expertly translated by Anthea Bell. The story is set in Germany at the end of the second World War. The narrative moves smoothly between the past and the present by means of the accounts of the different protagonists as they revisit the crime after eighteen years. A slim book but packs a real punch.
