Sans Moi

Marie Desplechin

I found this an enjoyable read although I did think that the narrator's life began to plummet out of control a bit too suddenly. An interesting lesson in relationships and how you can be continually perplexed by someone, even if you feel as though you've known them forever.

'How could you, Olivia? I mean, how could you?' She bends over the sink. She doesn't answer. Barely ten minutes ago, she was laughing, talking about condoms and telling jokes. The brother-in-law was having a great time, with his arms folded. I wonder how far I should accept what I don't understand.
