Disobedience by Jane Hamilton

Disobedience

Jane Hamilton

A warning to all trusting mums who rely on their kids to sort out their computers for them. Henry stumbles into his mother's e-mails and is drawn irresistibly into spying on her adulterous love affair. He attempts to stay wry and detached, but his gradual obsession and bitterness give the story a decidedly uncomfortable edge. His younger sister's Civil War re-enactments provide comic relief, but still with darker undertones.

Sometimes I'd decide to hate my mother. That was something I could reasonably do. I'd watch her sitting at the piano looking very much as if she were in her life, knowing full well that she was not.
