Wild Geese by Lara Harte

Wild Geese

Lara Harte

A modern author's interpretation of the classic English romantic novel - set in the cities of Dublin and Paris in the 18th century. This one has a twist though, in that it has quite serious points to make on the nature of the human race, and on the politics of the period it is set in. More than just a romance, it really does bring a piece of history to life.

Dr Connor eventually found Isabella. Like most of the other passengers, she was standing on deck, watching the shore grow smaller and more distant. All around her, voices grumbled about the discomfort of the vessel's accommodation, and the suffering that lay ahead of them on the journey, but what Isabella felt most was an overwhelming sense of freedom as Ireland began to disappear behind an expanse of dull grey waves.
