She was no longer behaving according to the Alzheimer's timeline Gillian kept in her desk drawer. The symptoms had begun appearing and disappearing faster than Gillian could develop strategies to cope with them. The latest was something called expressive aphasia, which meant Gillian couldn't even find the words any more to ask her day's supply of questions. (It was one of the things that made Gillian weepy when she was alone, the thought of Grace greeting each day with a little satchel of questions she'd packed.)
