My first reaction was that this book, about the last months of a man dying of cancer, would be sad and depressing. The little touches of grim humour and the love between the couple lightened it a bit, but some of his relationships were dysfunctional to the point of cruelty. I felt sorry for him, yet could not warm to him, which seemed a shame.
