Alice is torn between her mother, adherent of the true religion of the Church of the Plain Truth and her atheist but also arsonist father. Her boyfriend isn't much help either. This is a blackly comic, but inevitably tragic story; the ending stunned me even though I knew what it would be. I dare any reader not to have the same reaction.
