Electric

Chad Taylor

I can only describe this as an hallucinogenic noir novel. It's an atmospheric, otherwordly reading experience with a hypnotic, compelling plot. By the end of the novel, it's almost like coming up for air after being submerged in murky water for a long time. The fact that everything is happening under the threat of constant electricity failure increases the sense of suffocation. My partner can't wait to get his hands on this one.

He passed me the phial. The sweat on my chest felt like tears. And then the stupor hits me double-triple-time ....

It's that easy. That's all it is. We're just vessels. We carry all these chemicals in our body and some of them make us happy and some of them make us sad .... It's a scientific fact: we're just chemicals running through a brain.
